Is This Website Good for My 3-Year-Old?

Hi everyone 👋

I’m a parent of a 3-year-old and I’m always searching for fun, screen-free educational activities to do at home. I came across this site recently — it has a bunch of printable worksheets, coloring pages, and simple learning games for toddlers.

Has anyone here tried it? Would you say it's effective or age-appropriate for a 3-year-old?

Here’s the link if you'd like to explore it too:

I’ve heard a few good things but would love to get your thoughts before diving in.

Hello! I'm glad you found our forum. Unfortunately, a website that has worksheets and coloring pages is not developmentally appropriate for this age group. The National Association for the Education of Young Children teaches that worksheets and coloring pages are not the ways young children learn best and they do not promote feelings of success. Instead, plan explorations and adventures! There is nothing we can print that will be as effective as hands-on learning. For example, if you want your child to identify colors, letters, and numbers, go for a walk and find them being used on signs or go on a hunt for them in the supermarket. Children also build cognitive skills when they freely create art, not when they are filling in a pre-drawn character. When they freely draw and paint, they have to think, plan, evaluate, experiment, and they get to express themselves. For more information, you can check out NAEYC.org.

Hi,

I was wondering if we could receive a certificate or authorized proof that a podcast was listened to for professional development hours

Hi @Emily!

Thank you for being one of our Preschool Peeps. We are always happy to hear from people who are listening to our episodes.

Unfortunately, we cannot grant professional development hours because there is no way to verify exactly who was listening and for how long. We once explored this option in our state and were told that podcasts don't qualify for that reason.

I wish we were able to do that! If you are interested, you can join my email list to find out when I will be providing professional development on Zoom. As you can see on this website, I will be facilitating a free session on March 13: https://www.youngchildlearning.com/upcomingwebinars

I hope this helps!
